PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has issued a fresh notice to PML-N provincial president Amir Muqam asking him to appear before its investigation team on Thursday (July 19) to respond to questions about his ‘illegal’ assets.

He was earlier called on July 13 through a ‘call-up notice’ for the purpose but didn’t turn up before the NAB team.

The PML-N leader faces an inquiry for possessing assets allegedly disproportionate to the known sources of his income.

The NAB executive board had approved that inquiry during a meeting presided over by bureau chairman retired Justice Javed Iqbal in June.

PML-N leader had not appeared before investigators last week

A NAB official told Dawn that Mr Muqam had been asked to appear before the case investigation team at the NAB regional headquarters in Peshawar.

He added that the PML-N leader would be given a questionnaire related to his assets and if he failed to give satisfactory replies, further action would be taken on the case.

Mr Muqam, a former federal minister, has been contesting the general election in NA-2 Swat and NA-29 Peshawar constituencies.

In his nomination papers, he showed his movable and immovable properties worth millions of rupees and those of his wife and dependents.

Mr Muqam put the value of his net assets until June 2017 at Rs184.182 million, while the movable and immovable assets of his wife and dependents were valued at Rs602,079 million. He also claimed that he had received a loan of Rs11 million from his wife.

INQUIRIES OKAYED: The NAB, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday authorised an inquiry against the employees of Mohmand region’s political administration over alleged embezzlement of Wapda cess and other tax.

The approval was given by the bureau’s regional board during a meeting chaired by director general Farmanullah Khan here.

The meeting was attended by the relevant NAB directors, deputy prosecutor general, case officers, and other investigation officers.

The board also approved an inquiry against the employees of Nowshera district administration for illegally issuing an NOC for the Doctor Colony and against National Highway Authority general manager Mohammad Shahid for allegedly possessing illegal assets in different parts of the province.

An inquiry was authorised against the employees of the Charsadda revenue department (land acquisition) over the ‘illegal’ transfer of 438 kanals of government land purchased for a model school and another against the Galiyat Development Authority officials for allotting plots in Nathiagali allegedly in violation of laws.
