PML-N supreme Nawaz Sharif's younger brother, Shahbaz Sharif, on Saturday criticised the decision to try his brother and niece in Adiala jail.

"The news said that Nawaz Sharif and Mariam's trial will be held in Adiala. This is equal to shredding justice into pieces. Jail trials are held for terrorists. Even the plane hijacking case of 1990s in which we were falsely implicated by Gen Musharraf was an open trial. It was not held in jail," he said in a somewhat muted press conference.

"This is against the law and constitution and an extremely incorrect decision has been taken. Whoever has taken this decision, what are they trying to tell the country?"

Speaking about his own 'reception' for his brother, Shahbaz said he had never participated in a rally "as big as yesterday's" and called out the media for "blacking out" the entire rally, which he claimed had comprised "hundreds of thousands of people".

"What kind of a system is this? What kind of Pakistan do we want?" he asked, comparing the lack of coverage of yesterday's rally with coverage of the PTI-led dharna in 2014.

He also condemned police action against peaceful supporters who had gathered to welcome their leader, as well as the filing of FIRs against senior PML-N leaders under sections of the Anti Terrorism Act.
