KARACHI: For a change, it was the Policemen who had to worry about the return of lost property when one of the two unclaimed “dumbas” fell seriously ill yesterday [July 9] afternoon — and a squad of Policemen had to run here and there to rush the sick one to a veterinary doctor.

The lost dumba-couple had strayed into the Golimar Station about a fortnight ago, and were kept at the Police Station as lost property. But no one came forward to claim them and a lady constable was assigned to nurse the eight-week old dumbas. Just when the Policemen were finding the upkeep of the dumbas beyond their budget — a cost of 50 paisa each per day — one of the young ones fell seriously ill. She was rushed to a veterinary doctor yesterday evening escorted by the lady constable; and the Policemen at the Police Station were rushing files to hurry their auction before any of them died. — Correspondent

[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in Karachi,] Pakistan International Airlines will take into account the rate of air traffic growth before taking a final decision in September on the opening of trans-Atlantic route connecting Karachi with New York, PIA President, Air Vice-Marshal M. Akhtar, said yesterday [July 8].
