LAYYAH: District Education Authority CEO Shaukat Sherwani on Tuesday suspended a teacher of the Govt Primary School, Chak 300-TDA, tehsil Chaubara, and launched an inquiry into a public meeting held for a PML-N candidate at the school.

The suspended teacher was identified as Sarfraz Ahmed. Mr Sherwani made Deputy District Officer Tehsil Karor as inquiry officer.

The meeting was arranged by Thal Kalan Union Council Chairman Nazar Hussain for PML N candidate for PP-281 Abdul Shakoor Sewag.

The authorities took notice of the violation of the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan which prohibited the use of government buildings for election campaign of any political activity.

The local government department has also issued a letter, banning its representatives to participate in or conduct election campaigns for any candidate.

Sources in the education department told Dawn that Sarfraz had reportedly taken a verbal permission from Assistant Director Abdul Majeed who had categorically denied the teacher’s statement.

Deputy Commissioner Rafaqat Gilani and district monitor maintained said government would ensure the implementation of the ECP code in letter and spirit.
