KARACHI, June 1: Two brothers were killed when unknown persons opened fire at them in Jacob Line on Wednesday evening. Police said that Irfanullah and Imran alias Mano, both in their 30’s, were sitting at a puncture shop at Madina Road when two men on a motorcycle pulled up, opened fire at them and escaped.

The victims’ father Hashmatullah alias Dada reached the spot and shifted his sons to hospital where Irfanullah was pronounced dead on arrival while Imran succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.

Police said that both the brothers had a criminal record. Imran had 15 to 17 criminal cases of murder, attempt to murder and narcotics against him in different police stations. However, he was on bail these days, they added.

FIRE: Four shops were gutted in fire that broke out in Allahwalla Cloth Market at M.A. Jinnah Road on Wednesday morning. No one was reported hurt in the fire.

Chief Fire Officer Kazim Ali said that the fire department was informed about the fire at 8:49am. Six fire tenders were employed in the operation. The fire was brought under control by 11am, the CFO said. One shop was completely destroyed in the fire while rest of three were partially damaged.

He claimed that 150 shops were saved by the timely action of fire department. Otherwise, fire could have spread in the entire market. He attributed an electrical short circuit as the cause of fire. Shopkeepers estimated their losses into millions of rupees, he added.
