ISLAMABAD, May 31: Saipa of Iran will take on Shanghai (China) in the opening match of the Asian Men’s Club volleyball championship that begins at the Liaquat Gymnasium on Wednesday. A revised schedule has seen the number of matches on the first day being reduced from three to two with Pakistan’s Habib Bank up against Uzbekistan’s Uzi Samarkand in the day’s second game.

India’s Haryana State Industrial Corporation (HSIC) team is expected to arrive in Islamabad on Wednesday. Its delayed arrival was one of the reasons that prompted the organisers to reschedule the games.

The Indian side were originally due to feature in the first match of the event against a Thai club whose name was not released by the organisers.

A total of seven clubs will be competing in this weeklong championship that promises quality competition.

Fixtures for Wednesday: Saipa (Iran) v Shanghai (China) at 2.00pm; Habib Bank Pakistan) v Uzi Samarkand (Uzbekistan).
