LAHORE: Singer Ali Zafar has filed Rs1bn damages suit in the sessions court against singer Meesha Shafi for accusing him of sexual harassment.

The suit, filed through Advocate Khwaja Ahmad Tariq Raheem on Saturday, stated that Meesha had failed to withdraw her allegations and tender an unconditional apology on social media as required in a legal notice previously served on her by Ali Zafar.

It said Meesha, through a tweet on April 19, 2008, had leveled baseless allegations of sexual harassment against Ali Zafar, which had resulted in tarnishing his image in the public while his family faced agony and pain. However, she failed to delete the tweet and issue an apology based on the tweet within 14 days, the suit document stated and asked the court to issue a decree against Meesha, directing her to pay Rs1bn as damages to the appellant.
