CJP angered at lack of facilities for patients at Sukkur Civil Hospital

SUKKUR: Chief Justice of Pak­is­tan Mian Saqib Nisar expressed resentment over lack of facilities for patients during a visit to Sukkur Civil Hospital on Friday and directed the medical superintendent to submit to him a detailed report on the hospital’s problems and requirements.

The CJP, who was accompanied by Sindh High Court Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh, other judges of SHC and Sukkur district and sessions court and officers of administration and police, inspected conditions at medical ward, trauma ward, operation theatre, surgical unit, ICU, CT scan and MRI unit of the hospital, which was a teaching hospital of the Ghulam Mohammad Mahar Medical College.

He gathered information from patients about the facilities being provided to them and expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of essential services and equipment.

He was shocked to learn that there was no ventilator in ICU while other equipment was not working and asked the medical superintendent to submit a detailed report about shortage of doctors and paramedical staff, medicines and equipment in the hospital and other requirements in order to provide better facilities to patients.

During the course of his visit, a group of girl students of pharmacy department of the Shah Abdul Latif University, complained to the CJP that the university’s pharmacy department had been unregistered for the past nine years, putting future of more than 250 students at stake.

The CJP assured the students of helping resolve their problem and asked them to submit to him an application in this regard.

A group of protesters who were sacked from Sindh Reserve Police and district police held a demonstration before the CJP at the hospital’s gate and demanded reinstatement in service. The CJP asked them to submit a written application to the apex court and assured them of justice.

Likewise, house job doctors, paramedical staff and pensioners of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited met the CJP and informed him about their problems. The CJP listened to their problems and assured them of justice.
