LARKANA: In protest against the enforced disappearance of a student of class 10, his family members set up a camp in Jinnahbagh near Begum Nusrat Bhutto Memorial Library on Wednesday to demand his safe release.

Aqib Chandio was allegedly picked up from Madina Colony on Bakrani road on May 30 and so far his whereabouts were unknown, the protesters said.

His mother Mukhtiar Begum, sister Shazia Chandio, cousin Sajjad Chandio and members of civil society and literary figures sat at the camp where a 72-hour hunger strike was started.

A press release issued by the family of Aqib Chandio claimed that relatives of other missing persons also joined the camp.

They kept on raising slogans demanding release of Chandio and others.

They said Aqib Chandio’s marriage was fixed for June 18.

Ustad Khalid Chandio, Sindhi Adabi Sangat (SAS) secretary coordination Yasir Mangi, Dr Mazhar Mughal of the Sindh United Party and others also joined the protest, the press release added.
