Heat waves

Published June 20, 2018

PAKISTAN is one of the ten countries most affected by rising global temperatures. Unfortunately, no concrete steps are being taken to deal with this alarming threat. After the 18th amendment, the provinces are empowered to deal with water-related and environmental issues.

It is alarming that none of the provinces is taking the matter seriously except Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which has initiated planting one billion trees in the province.

The other provinces particularly Balochistan and Sindh need to take action on a war-footing to check the worsening situation. The authorities in Sindh need to come up with innovative solutions and tree plantation campaigns to triple forest cover in the province.
