Five members of a family were brutally murdered in their home in Jatial village in the Hazro tehsil of Attock district, DawnNewsTV reported on Thursday.

According to the police, the victims, that include two women and three children, were tied up and violently attacked with a sharp weapon. The bodies of the victims were transferred to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospital for post-mortem examination.

Another family member, Waseem, was also attacked; he, however, survived and was admitted to THQ for treatment. Two other children survived the attack as well.

Police are examining call records of the family's mobile phones and interrogating the residents of the area. The two surviving children, a boy and a girl, are unable to answer questions due to trauma, police said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raja Faizul Haq Naeem told DawnNewsTV that the cause behind the murders is still unclear and investigations are ongoing. Naeem said that the police are waiting to receive a complaint from Waseem after which a first information report will be filed.

Waseem and his family had been living in the area for six years and ran a barber shop, the DSP said.
