CHITRAL: Two persons died and three sustained serious injuries when the roof of a house caved in at Theengshen village in Chitral town here on the night between Friday and Saturday.

Chitral police told Dawn that the roof of the house of Noor Azam collapsed when the central beam crumbled. Nine members of the family were sitting there at the time of the incident. As a result, the mother of Noor Azam and his daughter, Azra, 15, died on the spot while others were rescued by the neighbours.

Kashif Khan, a witness, told this scribe that the deaths were caused due to delay in recovering the victims from the debris as it took many hours to clear the debris at night.

The residents said the Rescue 1122 personnel reached the spot many hours late when the injured and the dead had already been recovered from the debris and removed to hospital.
