PESHAWAR: Another main pipeline of the Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited was damaged by Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) crew near the cantonment railways station early on Wednesday.

According to sources in the SNGPL, the pipeline was damaged during digging along the Sher Shah Suri Road through heavy machinery. The damage caused suspension of supply of natural gas to the cantonment area.

However, an official said that gas pipeline was repaired between 10am to 1pm and the gas supply was restored to the consumers. He said that the BRT staff had been briefed about the gas installations to avoid damage to the supply line but even then the incidents were taking place frequently.

It may be mentioned here that the BRT contractors had also damaged the gas pipeline at different places in Hashtnagri area on May 16 and also damaged another pipeline in Hayatabad Township on May 19. During the ongoing work on the BRT the gas pipeline was damaged at many places, however, the credit went to the SNGPL technical staff that managed to restore the supply within possible short time.

SNGPL general secretary Arbab Saqib asked the consumers to take extreme care during the gas shutdown and re-commissioning and that all gas appliances must be shut during the time to avoid any kind of complication.
