ABBOTTABAD: Two brothers were killed while their friend was injured over a petty issue here in Thanda Mera area late on Thursday night.

Azhar, a former policeman, opened fire on Mohammad Ali and Mohammad Zubair, sons of a local trader. The two died on the spot, while their friend Zeeshan was seriously injured and was taken to a hospital.

According to sources, hot words were exchanged over a petty issue in the day, but with the intervention of elders the dispute was resolved. However, soon after Maghrib prayers, Ali and Zubair accompanied by Zeeshan were coming out of a mosque when Azhar and his accomplices allegedly opened fire on them and escaped.

The city police registered the case and have started investigation. It was learnt that Azhar was terminated from police service sometime back due to his involvement in a murder case.

COUNCIL SESSION: Abbottabad district nazim Ali Khan Jadoon has announced formation of 14 committees of the district council during its session. He said that representation to opposition members was given on equal basis as they wanted to run district’s affairs by involving all stakeholders.

Different resolutions, especially concerning removal of encroachments, were passed. Mr Jadoon asked members of the committees to put forward proposals for development of the district.

Meanwhile, the food authority sealed three sweets shops in Masjid Bazaar and two bakeries in Kunj area. At least 400 kilogrammes of adulterated and contaminated milk was also destroyed.

APPOINTED: Prof Dr Salma Aslam Kundi being the senior most was appointed dean of Ayub Medical College after acceptance of resignation of Prof Dr Azizun Nisa.

Prof Kundi remained head of physiology department and has already worked on key administrative posts such as vice-principal and chief of the Ayub Medical College.
