Five people were killed and four others were critically injured when a dumper crashed into a car near Tando Masti Khan on the Khairpur-Larkana bridge in Sindh's Khairpur district, police said.

According to Tando Masti Khan SHO Lala Ameer Pathan, a Mazda carrying sufi saint Sachal Sarmast's devotees — who were on their way back to Larkana after having paid their respects at his shrine — met with the terrible tragedy when an oncoming, overspeeding dumper crashed into it head-on.

SHO Pathan identified two deceased as Wadero Sher and Ali Gul, while the remaining three could not be immediately identified. They were residents of Larkana, Qambar and Khairpur.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to the nearby Tando Masti hospital for medico-legal formalities whereas the injured were also taken to the same for medical attention.

Initial reports provided by the hospital staff revealed that the condition of the injured was critical owing to which they were referred to Larkana hospital.

SHO Pathan said that the two vehicles had been impounded by the police.
