ISLAMABAD: The police arrested three members of the banned Jaish-i-Muhammad while they were distributing literature and collecting donations outside a mosque in the federal capital on Thursday, police officials said.

Intelligence reports had already warned provincial governments and the capital police that banned organisations were likely to collect donations during Ramazan and Eid.

The police in the twin cities have been directed to strictly implement the National Action Plan, which prohibits collection of donations by banned organisations.

According to the police, three persons were spotted by the police collecting donations outside the Bilal Mosque in G-6/3, Bazaar Road after Fajr prayers.

In the FIR which was registered, a police constable has said that members of the banned outfit were delivering speeches on behalf of the founder of the organisation and were also distributing literature.

He said he had tried to stop them but they continued so he called in reinforcements.

The police said receipts of Rs5,900 and some books were also recovered from them.

Sub-Inspector Rashid Ahmed told Dawn that the three individuals were arrested under the terrorism act and that they were collecting donations and were delivering hateful speeches outside the mosque.
