MULTAN: A group of union council (UC) chairmen has demanded an investigation into the financial matters of the Multan Municipal Corporation.

UC Chairmen Jalil Khan Babar, Shaikh Fayaz, Akhtar Alam Qureshi and Zarar Khan told a press conference on Wednesday the record of quotations of last financial year, development work including tenders issued by the corporation, details of funds spent on lights, record of funds used for petrol should be investigated.

They alleged that development budget was spent on a specific provincial assembly constituency where work was awarded to blacklisted contractors.

They alleged that budget of cattle market was increased with the connivance of the mayor while corruption was also done in issuing no-objection certificates to residential areas for commercial purpose.

They also said that only 20 per cent of the fund was spent on installing lights.They alleged that gangsters were called by the mayor in the last meeting of the corporation who beat the chairmen and instead of taking any notice of the incident, the mayor played the role of a spectator.

They said that no legal action was taken against the gangsters who tortured the chairmen.

They said that the city had turned into a big garbage dump, roads were broken, sewerage system was completely choked but the mayor has concern to solve the issues.
