KARACHI, May 27: A large number of men, women and children from the fishing villages of Karachi observed a token hunger strike in front of the Karachi Press Club on Friday to protest against contract system on inland fisheries and arrest of the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum leaders including its Chairperson Mohammad Ali Shah.

Led by PFF Deputy General Secretary Umaid Bukhsh, Ms Tahira Ali, Saeed Baloch and others, hundreds of PFF members took part in the strike.

The participants raised slogans against contract system and condemned the arrest of their leaders.

The PFF central committee, in a meeting on Thursday decided to hold hunger strikes in front of each press club of the district headquarters on daily basis.—PPI
