CHAKWAL: A woman was beaten to death while a man was shot dead for honour in separate incidents, police said on Friday.

In the first incident in Pidh village located in Choa Saidan Shah police area, a man beat his niece to death on Thursday night.

The woman was sleeping in her room when her uncle came and locked the room from inside and started beating her with a club killing her on the spot.

“The family members of the deceased kept on trying to break into the room but by the time they managed to enter, the woman had died,” the police official said, adding that the accused suspected that his niece had an affair with someone.

The second incident took place near Jabairpur village in the area of Saddar police station in which a man opened fire on his sister’s family killing his brother-in-law on the spot and injuring his sister and niece.

According to police the man, a resident of Karhan village, contracted marriage with a woman who eloped with him two years ago.

This enraged the woman’s brother. The deceased had already married twice but his relations with the first two wives were sour.

The police have registered two separate cases under charges of murder and honour and are trying to arrest both the suspects, investigating officer Khawar Saeed told Dawn.
