IT is heartening to see that during the holy month of Ramazan some affluent individuals and charity organisations take up the task of helping those who are economically marginalised. Indeed, this move on the part of these individuals and charity organisations is instrumental in mitigating the woes of the poor to some extent.
The Khayal Foundation (Reg) is one such organisation based and working in Mianwali. It is actively involved in supporting the needy and the destitute. Its members visit the district and after identifying people in need, provide them ration and other necessary items at their doorsteps.
Ironically, this sacred month adds to the miseries of the masses with limited income resources as the prices of daily use commodities increase exorbitantly. Vendors and shopkeepers overcharge the customers with impunity as the concerned authorities appear helpless to act against black-marketers.
It is incumbent upon all of us to take care of those who are financially weak and find it difficult to get on with their lives. If we reduce our unnecessary expenses and resolve to help those trapped in the net of poverty, their sense of deprivation can be addressed to a large extent.
