KHAR: Two brothers were killed allegedly in the name of ‘honour’ in Barang tehsil of Bajaur Agency on Friday.

Local people and officials said that the incident occurred in the hilly Tar area, some 35 kilometres from Khar, the agency headquarters.

They said that Waheed Khan and Nazir Khan, sons of Noor Hamid Khan, were on way somewhere from their home when armed men of Mohammad Zameer, a local dweller, intercepted them and opened firing on them.

They said that both the brothers suffered serious injuries and died on way to hospital.

According to the residents, Sardar Khan, brother of the deceased, had allegedly married a girl of Zameer’s family without the consent of her parents several weeks ago.

It said that the marriage had caused concern among the girl’s family and they called it ‘unforgivable’ crime as it’s against the local customs and traditions.

The local people said that after the marriage the girl’s family had once planned to attack house of Sardar Khan for his crime, but a jirga of local elders intervened and stopped the girl’s brothers and relatives from taking any such action.

They said that the family continued insisting that both the girl and boy should be handed over to them.

An official in Khar told this scribe that they had launched efforts to arrest the alleged killers.
