LONDON: Apropos the judgement given in Oxford recently which lays down that if a wife is able to save money from housekeeping, and the money belongs to the husband and not to the wife, Mrs. Eileen Sean O’Casey, wife of the famous English dramatist said: “The man who accepts such a verdict knowing that his wife worked hard to save it up, is unworthy of the name of man. The Government had better hurry up to legislate against similar verdicts in the future. Otherwise they will ruin their War Savings campaign. There will be panic among women working in the factories while their husbands are fighting, if they discover that anything saved belongs to the husband. This verdict destroys much of the romance in marriage.”

Mrs. Jennie Lee, former M.P. and the wife of Commoner Aneurin Bevan said: “From my point of view, the whole thing sounds somewhat metaphysical. But I think personal relationships must be founded upon trust and faith. There should be more Communism in domestic relationships — in the home there must be equality in sharing. I think this sort of thing will continue until married women have perfect equality, independence and responsibility.”
