A local leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, who survived two attempts on his life during last two months, was shot at and wounded critically by alleged gangsters in Lyari area of Karachi on Wednesday night, said City SSP Sheeraz Nazeer.
Three other persons including one alleged attacker were also injured in the gun-cum-grenade attack in Gharib Shah locality in the remits of Kalakot police station, added the senior officer.
SSP Nazeer told Dawn that a person identified as Arshad called the PML-N leader Aqeel Rehmani for meeting at Gharib Shah. When Rehmani along with his friend, Usman reached there, armed men opened fire on them. As a result, both Rehmani and Usman sustained bullet wounds.
The firing alerted the locals who gathered there and resorted to firing in which one suspected gangster Asad reportedly sustained injuries, revealed the City SSP.
The wounded persons were taken to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi where “condition of the PML-N leader was stated to be serious”, said the officer.
SSP Nazeer mentioned that Aqeel Rehman, who is a trader by profession, had survived two attempts on his life allegedly carried out by gangsters linked with Zahid Ladla-led gang in last two months.
