KHAIRPUR: A heavy spell of rain coupled with thunderstorm lashed the city and other parts of Khairpur district at around midnight intervening Monday and Tuesday.

The other areas that received heavy, moderate and light rain during the night included Kingri, Sobhodero, Gambat and Thari Mirwah talukas.

The downpour caused a considerable drop in the temperature providing relief to the people experiencing weeks of sweltering heat. However, the rain and strong winds caused power breakdown plunging most areas of the district into darkness.

Growers of dates, banana and seasonal fruits greeted the rain with joy believing that it would be beneficial to the crops.
