THE ransacking by lawyers on April 30 of the Faisalabad City Police office and the thrashing of policemen on the premises have proved beyond an iota of doubt that this community is also to be counted with other sections of society that do not respect the law and consider themselves immune to law.

If an ordinary man had uttered even a word against the police he would have been booked and locked up for interfering with police business.

While citizens are in mortal fear of setting foot in a police station, one was bemused to see footage on news channels of uniformed policemen fleeing the police station to escape the wrath of stick-wielding lawyers. Instead of taking action against the lawbreakers, the police high-ups and the Bar Council have decided to sit together and resolve the issue amicably.

There is something seriously wrong with our society if this is how we deal with cases of infringement of the law and condone unlawful acts of miscreants no matter whosoever they are.
