KARACHI: A couple, who married of their free will in Qambar district a few years ago, was shot at and wounded allegedly by the girl’s father and four other suspects in Shah Latif Town on Friday, according to police.

They added that the gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on them.

As a result, Mohammed Yusuf, his wife Nawabzadi and two other relatives, Ahmed Khan and Mohammed Khan, sustained bullet wounds. They were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

According to Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of the hospital, Mrs Nawabzadi received two bullet wounds on her back while her husband Yusuf sustained injury on his chest.

Ahmed Khan was hit on his neck while Mohammed Khan received a bullet wound on the chest.

Shah Latif SHO Abdul Ghaffar Shah told Dawn that the wounded couple had married of their free will in their home district, Qambar, in 2013 and thereafter shifted to Karachi. The couple has children.

Their marriage was not accepted by the woman’s father Siddiq who, along with his four other relatives, attacked them on Friday.

The police have registered a case against them, but no one was arrested till filing of this report.
