KARACHI: Zubair Khan won a playoff against Ashir Masih to finish top of the leaderboard at the end of the Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) Qualifying School event here at the Karachi Golf Course on Friday.

The three-day event featured 270 golfers and was held simultaneously at the KGC and the Defence Authority Golf and Country Club (DACGC) over the first two days with the top 60 finishers being given a PGF card as a professional.

Zubair’s final-round 73 and Ashir’s 71 saw them end the event level at three over-par 219. In the playoff on the 18th hole, Zubair had a par while Ashir finished with a bogey.

It was a day on which anyone could’ve won with only three shots separating the top 12 golfers.

Zubair and Ashir had finished one shot better than four golfers — Arshad Rasheed, Irfan Mehmood, Abid Rana and Usman Ali. Ali Asghar and Ali Sher finished with 221 while Abid Manzoor, Arif Ali, Mohammad Shehroz and Akbar Mehroz were another shot adrift.

PGF joint-secretary Dr Ali Haider and PGF manager Salman Abbasi supervised

the trials under Asad I.A. Khan as Chairman with Ahmed Jamil Siddiqi and Cdre Zafar Mahmood acting as chief referees.

As a goodwill gesture, the top 15 professionals and the top five senior professionals were given cash prizes.

Asad Khan (220) win the senior professionals category ahead of Maqbool Ahmed (222). Karam Hussain and Abdul Waheed finished one stroke further behind.
