Noise pollution

Published April 21, 2018

I WOULD like to draw the attention of our civic authorities to the unbearable noise pollution experienced by the residents of Akhtar Colony, Karachi. Residents of the area are often disturbed by loudspeakers blaring all the time from various marriage halls. These halls are busy not only during the marriage season, but also on most other occasions when different kinds of social, cultural and political meetings are held there. The amplified noise distresses people of the area, particularly schoolchildren, patients and the elderly, who cannot have a sound night’s sleep.

We have lodged several complaints with the authorities, but in vain. I would strongly suggest that the use of loudspeakers at marriage halls, theatres, etc, be regulated at the earliest so that residents of the locality get relief. Students, as well as others, would thank the authorities profusely for taking the necessary steps.
