LAHORE: The Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) ended its countrywide protests in the wee hours of Friday after the government accepted “all its demands” in the light of the Faizabad agreement.

According to a press release issued by the TLP, the FIR of all those who were killed or injured in Faizabad sit-in was lodged and the copy handed over to the leaders of the Tehreek, which has been the prime demand.

Similarly, the Raja Zafarul Haq report which was prepared in the aftermath of a controversial change in the parliamentarians’ oath on the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) and had not been made public, was also given to the Tehreek leaders.

The government also agreed to set up an inquiry committee to investigate the violent events during the sit-in and also include two nominees (Syed Anaitul Haq Shah and Hafeez Ullah Alvi) of the TLP in it. It was also decided that Punjab Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Rana Sanaullah would appear before a panel of religious scholars and explain his position on his controversial interview in which he allegedly defended a minority as Muslims. The decision of the panel would be accepted by the minister and the Punjab government.

The Punjab government, which had already notified that mosques would be allowed to install loudspeakers in all four directions as demanded by the TLP, also handed over a copy of the notification to the TLP leaders.

With all its demands being met, the TLP leadership ended sit-ins around 3am on Friday and let life return to normal throughout the country.

“In its 11-day sit-in, the TLP had a number of rounds of negotiations which in the end yielded the results and sit-ins were terminated,” concludes the press release.

The government had announced acceptance of all demands put up by the TLP shoora in its late night meeting.
