HYDERABAD: The district administration of Hyderabad has fixed retail price of per litre milk at Rs90 and yoghurt at Rs120 per 1kg.

The decision was taken at a meeting of milk sellers, retailers association, milk farmers association, cattle colony, and dairy farmers association.

Addressing the meeting, Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner Anis Ahmed Dasti said there was no reason why the milk in Hyderabad should be sold at the price of Karachi’s market considering the fact that the price in Karachi was assessed after including transportation, utility and labour charges.

He said that unilateral increase in per litre rate of milk in Hyderabad had resulted in additional burden on consumers and he had received complaints about sale of milk at Rs100 per litre.

He said that milk sellers should revise their rate and sell it at the officially fixed price. He warned that action would be taken against milk sellers who would raise the milk price before and during the month of Ramazan.

Regional president of the dairy and cattle farmers association, Hadi Bux Jatoi, told the meeting that Hyderabad city needed 2.4 million litres milk per day and due to losses in business and price hike, 35 milk farms were shut in Hyderabad whereas owners of the remaining farms were facing debt constraints.
