KARACHI, May 19: The Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad, has exhorted government functionaries to make capability, commitment to duty and sense of responsibility as their identity. Talking to a study group of the 31st Common Training Programme of the National Police Academy at the Governor’s House, Ibad pointed out that they would not face any kind of pressure nor would they need any recommendation or favour in service if they worked under these principles.

To a question about the political use of police during various governments in the past, and steps taken to end this trend, the governor pointed out that police functionaries who sought benefits did come under pressure of those who provided them the same.

He said that challenging responsibilities were given only to those who worked with sincerity, dedication, dutifulness, honesty and merit, and such people were always in demand.

He said in Sindh, the wedge between the police and people had narrowed down, and due to their (people’s) growing confidence, the police had achieved significant success in controlling crimes within the available facilities and conditions.

Ibad pointed out that there was more direct contact between the police and people as compared to other departments, and that was why their responsibilities were multiple as well.

He emphasised that peace was a basic requirement to achieve progress in every sector.

Ibad said the best possible capabilities were being employed for rooting-out crimes by strengthening and coordinating the ongoing activities.—APP
