SWABI: Lawyers elected members of district bar associations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday.

In Swabi, Daniyal Khan of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Safdar Zaib of the Awami National Party were elected president and general secretary of the bar association respectively.

For the first time in district’s history, a woman, Fauzia Zamurad, was elected the bar’s vice president unopposed.

Mr Daniyal got 111 votes defeating Mohammad Sagheer Khan advocate of the ANP, who obtained 88 votes.

He was elected for the third time.

Safdar defeated Jangaiz of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf by receiving 95 votes against 75 votes.

In Buner, Said Jamil Shah was elected the district bar’s president and Riaz Jan general secretary.

Said Jamal was backed by the Provincial Lawyers’ Forum, while Riaz Jan was fielded by Malgari Wakilan.

PLF’s Fiaz Khan won the slot of the finance secretary.

The MW candidates supported by the Islamic Lawyers Forum won all other slots of the bar association.

Muhtaram Shah was elected as the bar’s vice president, Ikramullah Khan joint secretary and Iftikhar Advocate librarian.

In Abbottabad, Khan Gul Khan Jadoon was re-elected the president of the district bar association and Musaddaq Khan Jadoon general secretary.

In Shangla, Naeem Khan was elected the district bar association’s president for the second time.

He obtained 24 votes against rival Khan Bahadar, who polled 17 votes. Sardar Khan was elected general secretary of the bar unopposed.

In Haripur, Asadullah Malik was elected president of the district bar association securing 362 votes against rival candidate Kala Khan’s 103 votes.

Syed Shahid Mehboob became general secretary and Rasheeda Yousaf joint secretary.

In Charsadda, Mujeebur Rehman and Syed Amjad Ali were elected the district bar association’s president and general secretary respectively.

Mujeebur Rehman secured 69 votes against rival candidate Abdur Rehman’s 54 votes, while Syed Amjad Ali polled 71 votes.

In Tangi, Haji Mohammad Ibrahim Mohmand was elected the president of tehsil bar association.

All other members of the bar, including general secretary, were elected unopposed.
