BAHAWALPUR: The sewerage behind the general bus stand collapsed on Friday, causing a great deal of inconvenience to the residents of several localities around Multan Road.

The sewage inundated the streets and roads causing hindrance in the smooth flow of traffic. The sewage also entered the houses in some low-lying areas.

Mayor Aqeel Najam Hashmi, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Rana Muhammad Saleem Afzal, inspected the area and warned the officials concerned against negligence. The mayor directed them to repair the sewerage immediately or face action.

EXECUTED: A convict was executed at the new Central Jail here on Thursday.

Mohsin Waseem was sentenced to death by Okara judicial officer in a case registered against him under section 302 of PPC by the Cantonment police in 2017. He was a resident of 93-Fateh village in Chishtian.

The body was handed over to his parents outside the jail on Thursday morning.

DISPLAY: Regional election commissioner Mansoor Mussarrat has notified for the voters establishment of 339 display centres of voters’ lists from March 26 in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan districts.

According to Mansoor Musarrat, the voters would be able to check their names and those of their family members and other details. He said they might also be able to point out discrepancy, if any, seek correction or get their votes transferred from one place to another.

District election commissioner Muhammad Saleem Shehzad said that for the convenience of the voters, the display centres had been opened in their nearest government schools or any other government buildings available in the areas. The centres would remain open for the public from morning till evening, including Sundays until April 24.

CATTLE FAIR: The three-day Cholistan cattle fair concluded at the Jugait Farm near Khairpur Tamewali here.

The fair was organised by the department of livestock and dairy development.

A large number of people along with their animals participated in the event and won the prizes for keeping their best animals. District Council Chairman Sheikh Dilshad Qureshi gave away the prizes.

ARRESTED: Saddar police claim to have unearthed a women’s burglars gang and arrested three women.

According to the police, the suspects used to enter the houses on some pretexts to rob the housewives. The police registered case against them.
