ISLAMABAD: The matter related to an official bulletproof car retained by former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry even after his retirement may linger on as the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) order declaring that the former CJ was not entitled to retain the vehicle might be challenged.

According to sources, the petitioners who sought justification for the former CJ’s decision of retaining the official vehicle after his retirement have decided to challenge the IHC’s order.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the IHC had on March 3 dismissed all petitions, seeking justification and opposing the right of Mr Chaudhry to retain the official bulletproof vehicle after his retirement.

The petitions seeking justification for the former CJ’s right to retain the vehicle were filed by advocates Sheikh Ahsanuddin and Taufiq Asif while the petition in opposition to his act was filed by Advocate Riaz Hanif Rahi.

While dismissing the petitions, Justice Kayani declared that a retired judge could avail benefits as provided in “The Supreme Court Judges Leave, Pension and Privileges Order, 1997”, which has no provision related to the entitlement of bulletproof cars for retired chief justices.
