HYDERABAD, May 16: A clash took place between mebers of the rival unions of the National Bank of Pakistan on Thandi Sarak on Monday. Two employees and office-bearers of the officers’ association suffered serious injuries.

Members of the two groups pelted each other with stones and broke flower pots outside the main branch of the NBP and the management immediately closed the main gates of the bank.

They used batons against each other.

A large number of people gathered on the main road outside the branch.

Rehmatullah Sarki, who claimed to be president of the NBP Employees Front (CBA) told Dawn that he was the genuine CBA and had come to the regional office.

Mr Sarki held Ashraf Junejo and Saeed Haider responsible for the incident.

“While I was returning from funeral of one of their colleague in Tando Adam, the rivals who were not office- bearers of CBA attacked me and my colleagues”, said Mr Sarki who was standing on the stairs of the bank with torn clothes.

He said the group attacked him was neither acknowledged by the bank nor genuinely elected yet they scuffled with us.

Sultan Panhwar, who was said to be deputy general secretary of the NBP Officers Welfare Association, suffered head injuries. He was admitted to the hospital.

Another employee, Ghous Bux Rind, the president of the NBP district Nawabshah, also received injuries.

The Makki Shah and fighter police rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.
