Sugar cane price

Published March 13, 2018

SUGAR cane price remains an unresolved issue in Sindh. The sugar cane growers have tried to raise their voice at every forum but are left unheard.

The Supreme Court has ordered Rs180 per maund as offical price, but sugar mill owners are purchasing sugar cane at Rs135 to Rs150 per maund.

The growers have cirticised the lethargic attitude of the Sindh government regarding the issue and the transgression by the mill owners. According to them, the low sugar cane price is an impediment to the growth of other seasonal crops as they have invested a lot of resources and money in sugar cane farming.

The chief justice of Pakistan should take action for the execution of the apex court’s order.
