ISLAMABAD, May 15: President General Pervez Musharraf has invited members of the central executive committee of Pakistan Muslim League and other leaders at the Aiwan-i-Sadr on Monday to discuss the overall political situation and party matters. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is expected to attend the meeting. The president, the sources said, would also discuss with the PML leadership issues relating to the forthcoming budget and local bodies’ elections.

It may be mentioned that the prime minister had met the president on Saturday and briefed him on a meeting of the CEC held earlier in the day. —PPI

Our Staff Reporter adds from Lahore: Former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali met PML president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain in Gujrat on Sunday and discussed political differences with them.

The meeting was significant as the politician from Balochistan had refused to participate in a PML central working committee meeting in Islamabad on Saturday despite requests by various colleagues.

However, he went to Gujrat on Sunday to attend the Valima ceremony of the son of Chaudhry Shujaat Husain, saying personal relations had nothing to do with political differences. He said after the meeting that his differences were not personal. PML secretary-general Mushahid Hussain and Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed were present.

Informed sources say that the president’s intervention will set the situation right. Meanwhile, the Valima ceremony of Shaafea Hussain, son of Shujaat Hussain and nephew of Pervez Elahi, was held at Zahoor Elahi House here on Sunday.

It was attended by Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool, NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani, AJK President Sardar Anwar Ibrahim, NA Speaker Chaudhry Ameer Hussain, Punjab Assembly speaker Afzal Sahi, federal ministers Amanullah Jadoon, Rao Sikandar Iqbal, Ejazul Haq, Shamim Haider, Zahid Hamid, Sardar Asif Nakai, Dr Sher Afgan Niazi, former NA speaker Gohar Ayub Khan, former Punjab chief minister Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, provincial ministers, and members of parliament.
