MITHI: A team of Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) on Wednesday raided the office of mukhtiarkar in Kaloi town and took away revenue record to launch probe against former Sindh chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim for his alleged involvement in land-grabbing.

ACE Circle Officer Ali Junejo told local reporters after the raid: “As CM, Arbab Rahim had grabbed government land, including that of cattle farm and other pricey pieces of land across Thar with the help of forged documents in connivance with then mukhtiarkar,” said Mr Junejo.

He said that if the former chief minister was found guilty in the light of the evidence to be extracted from the record the department would lodge an FIR against him.

Asked whether the probe was part of political victimisation of one of the arch-rivals of the PPP, the official said that he did not know about the motive of the probe. He was just obeying the orders he had received from his high-ups, he said.

Arbab Anwar Jabbar, a close relative of Dr Rahim and main leader of Arbab group, expressed his anger before local reporters and said that such ugly tactics could not force them to bow to pressure brought to bear on their family.

Dr Rahim was not available for comments.
