KOHAT: The dispute resolution council (DRC) settled an old land issue under Pakhtun traditions and handed over Rs36.6 million to the real owner by resolving it out of court here on Tuesday.

The jury of DRC, headed by former chief justice of Peshawar High Court Syed Ibne Ali, was attended by its members DIG Kohat Awal Khan, DPO Abbas Majeed Marwat, coordinator Shahid Zaman, Mst Zebun Nisa, district khateeb Mufti Shafiullah, Faiq Ali Shah, Abid Paracha, educationist Qamar Zaman and Feroze Khan.

The applicant, Mohsin Ali Shah, had moved his case in the DRC two years ago, claiming the 12 kanals and four marals located in Jarma area as his property. The jury heard the case and announced its decision on Tuesday.

The occupant of the said land, Hameed Khan of Afridi Banda, was told that documents presented by Mohsin Ali clearly proved his claim of ownership of property therefore he should pay the price of the land to him in one installment.

Hameed Khan then paid Rs36.6 million in cash which were handed over to the actual owner at a ceremony.

NO STYLISH HAIRCUTS: The district administration here on Tuesday banned designing of beards and haircuts in fashionable styles like French cut and imposed a penalty on hairdressers and the clients.

Assistant commissioner Gul Bano ordered the hairdressers not to cut stylish beards which were un-Islamic. She said that barbers violating the ban would be fined Rs50,000 while the clients would be sent to prison.

Meanwhile, a TMA employee Sakhi Badshah, who had beaten up Dr Abdul Haq while accusing him of showing laxity in treatment of his brother at the hospital’s emergency, apologised to him at a jirga. The doctor was attacked after he declared Sakhi’s brother dead due to heart attack on Feb 27.

CULTURAL SHOW: A cultural show was held at the Kohat University of Science and Technology by the Information Technology Department on Tuesday.

Former senator Abbas Khan Afridi was the chief guest who accompanied by vice-chancellor Dr Jameel inaugurated the function. The students had displayed various stalls while Atanr dance, kite-flying and food were other attractions.
