SARGODHA: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has served notice on State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Mohsin Shahnawaz to appear on Friday (today) to explain why he should not be proceeded against for violating the code by visiting Kotmomin’s PP-30 constituency.

The minister allegedly visited the constituency in support of the PML-N nominee and announced development works for the area.

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) alleged that the minister also invited ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif to influence the election campaign.

The seat fell vacant after the death of Tahir Ahmad Sindhu and the ECP announced that polling would be held on March 4. Four candidates are in the contention for the seat for which the real contest is expected between PML-N’s Yasir Iqbal Sindhu and PTI’s Sajid Mahmood.

There are 173,912 voters and 137 polling stations and 417 booths have been set up. As many as 1,400 police officers and 200 volunteers will be on duty besides army men under whose supervision the presiding officers will be given polling material.

Rao Sajid alleged that the minister and parliamentarians of the PML-N were illegally intervening in the process and managed to appoint polling staff of their choice to rig the election.

PTI vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed are scheduled to arrive in Phularwan on Friday to address people in support of the PTI nominee for PP-30.
