WASHINGTON: Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has postponed an expected visit to the White House after a testy telephone call with US President Donald Trump, the US media reported on Sunday.

The Washington Post reported that the two leaders spoke for about 50 minutes on Tuesday and devoted much of the conversation to President Trump’s plan to build a wall on the US-Mexico border.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the conversation turned sour when President Trump insisted that Mexico should pay for the wall to prevent Mexican workers from entering the United States. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Mr Trump had promised to his voters that he will not only build the wall but will also force Mexico to pay for it.
