KARACHI: The Pak Sarzameen Party and the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf agreed on Wednesday to explore “options” for extending cooperation to each other in the upcoming Senate election from Sindh.

The PSP enjoys support of eight MPAs in the Sindh Assembly and the PTI has three lawmakers. Both parties have fielded candidates for a couple of Senate seats, but keeping in view their numeric strength even jointly they cannot win a seat without getting support from other lawmakers.

A PTI delegation led by senior leader Imran Ismail called on PSP leaders at their party headquarters, Pakistan House, and discussed various issues, including the current political situation of Karachi and Senate elections.

Later, PSP secretary general Raza Haroon told reporters that PTI chairman Imran Khan and PSP chief Mustafa Kamal “had a contact” around two months ago and “today both parties formed a coordination committee” comprising members from the two sides.

He said vice chairman Waseem Aftab would represent the PSP in the committee. “We will continue to work together for addressing people’s problems,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ismail of the PTI said the two parties discussed the March 3 Senate election with the possibility of fielding a joint candidate.

He said PSP chairman Kamal during his tenure as Karachi mayor had developed the metropolis.
