LAHORE: As part of its Newspaper In Education (NIE) Programme (NIE), the DAWN Media Group in collaboration with Edequal is organising the first ever Math Challenge this year.

It is a national inter-school competition open to two groups, with Group 1 comprising students of 7 and 8 classes and Group 2 of 9 and 10 classes.

The contest is aimed at providing the students a platform to demonstrate their intellectual, analytical and problem solving skills in mathematics.

The competition is conducted using the latest quiz technology formats in four sequential rounds.

The school round for both the groups was successfully held across the country in the last week of January 2018.

The Preliminary Round in Lahore is all set to begin today (Wednesday) at the Ali Auditorium, Ali Institute of Education on the Ferozepur Road.

Qualifying students would be competing for the regional title in order to book their slot in the National Championship, which would be held in Karachi on Feb 24, whereby the Lahore Region winners would be competing with those from Islamabad and Karachi regions for the national title.

The prime focus of the competition is to reach out to the students across Pakistan and strengthen their mathematical reasoning and analytical capabilities by fostering a love of the subject in them.

The event is supported by MCB-Arif Habib, Uniferoz and Alif Ailaan and the judges for the competition are provided by the Oxford University Press (OUP).
