HYDERABAD: Several thousand students from various educational institutions and other people thronged the Quaid-i-Millat Park on Autobahn Road in Latifabad to attend a two-day ‘Hyderabad Science Festival’ which ended on Tuesday.
It was organised by the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC). Mayor Tayyab Hussain and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) lawmakers, including Sabir Qaimkhani, Rashid Khilji, Zubair Ahmed Khan and Dilawar Qureshi, sponsored and organised the event The event was inaugurated by a group of special citizens.
Scores of students wearing clean and crisp school uniforms were amazed and enthralled by a scientific project titled ‘Wireless Power Transmission’. They enjoyed the experiment when two students of class 10 of Govt Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah Higher Secondary School Hyderabad, Haris and Adeel, lit a saver bulb without a wire.
Two students of class 11, Maryam Khalid and Laiba Malik, of Government Shah Latif Girls College Latifabad-6 developed a project titled ‘Human Bone Fracture’. They briefed visitors about safeguarding themselves from road accidents especially when travelling on motorbike.
“Girls and women must take care of and control their abayas and chador while travelling on motorbikes, and crossing roads. Teenage boys, who generally do one-wheeling stunts or resort to reckless riding and driving, must think of road safety for themselves and others,” Laiba Malik said.
A number of stalls were established by students of public and private schools, colleges, varsities, public and private organisations.
Live science experiments were performed in the event where mathematical tricks, botanical garden, book fair, motivational session and handicrafts were part of the exhibit. Visitors also enjoyed food throughout their activities at the festival.
Mirza Hadi Ali Baig, a visitor who was with his family, said it was for the first time that a huge scientific festival was organised. Such activities must continue in future, he added.
“We demand of the government to build an IT (information technology) University and IT Park in Hyderabad. We also appeal to the government to make all laboratories of educational institutions functional,” MPA Sabir Qaimkhani said.
