HYDERABAD: A son of one of the three Chandios killed in Mehar last month appealed here on Wednesday to the chief justices of Pakistan and Sindh High Court to take suo motu notice of the triple murder in which his father, uncle and grandfather had died.

Addressing a press conference at the local press club, Sada Hussain Chandio said he should be provided justice. He said he had met the inspector general of police (IGP) Sindh, PPP-Parliamentarians MNA Faryal Talpur and others in this regard and all of them had assured that justice would be ensured in the case, but nothing had been done yet.

He said that his family and the accused belonged to the same political party ie the PPP. Of all the nominated accused, only one Ali Gohar Chandio had surrendered to police, but Mehar police claimed to have arrested him following an encounter, he added.

He said the prime accused in the case namely Murtaza Chandio was present in the bungalow of Sardar Khan Chandio at the time of incident on Jan 17, but Sardar Khan was trying to save him.

Sada disclosed that Burhan Khan Chandio had handed over his mobile to police for investigation, but Sardar Khan Chandio did not hand over his mobile phone to police because it had proof that only a few minutes before the incident, Murtaza Chandio had contacted Sardar over the mobile phone and also sent text messages to Sardar Khan.

He said that he possessed the relevant record in this regard and added that he also had pictures of Sardar Khan Chandio, Murtaza Khan Chandio, Ali Gohar Chandio and Burhan Khan Chandio. He insisted that Burhan Khan Chandio was present in the area at the time of killings as he was the mastermind of it. He claimed that planning for those murders was made at the residence of Sardar Khan Chandio in his own presence.

He stated that Murtaza Khan Chandio was facing 20 criminal cases and was hiding in the bungalow of Sardar Khan Chandio to date.

He alleged that Sardar Khan Chandio had created a state within a state in his area and those who defied his orders were punished. He said his (Sada’s) family had opposed Sardar Khan Chandio and formed Tumandar Council, which embarrassed him (Sardar) and he planned the killings through Murtaza Chandio.

Sada denied that his family had any conflict with Yaqoob Mirrani Chandio and that his (Yaqoob’s) son still lived in the same locality where his family was living. He said that an impression was being created that the two families were engaged in a conflict.

He said Tumandar Council, which had become the bone of contention, still existed and he was its chairman. He said the council had become significant because the Chandio community had resisted Jagirdari system and was staging a rebellion.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chandia Ittehad president Raees Altaf Sakhani Chandio, advocate Nisar Chandio, Nadir Hussain Samad, Ali Nawaz Chandio, Waqar Chandio and others held a joint press conference at the local press club on Wednesday.

They said Nawab Sardar Khan Chandio and Nawab Burhan Khan Chandio had nothing to do with the triple murder of Karamullah Chandio and his sons Mukhtiar Chandio and Qabil Chandio.

They said Yaqoob Chandio and Karamullah Chandio, who were from the same branch of Chandio tribe – Mirrani — had been involved in a conflict since the ’80s. They said the Jan 17 killings were an offshoot of that conflict, but Nawab Sardar Khan Chandio and Burhan Khan Chandio were booked for those murders.

They said Nawab Burhan Khan Chandio was present at the birth anniversary programme of Shaheed Fazil Rahu on Jan 17 in Rahuki, Badin.

They said this fact would be corroborated by the PPP leadership, district administration of Tando Mohammad Khan and the divisional administration of Hyderabad.

They said that after those killings, members of some non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were giving a twist to the incident, which could not be tolerated.

They threatened that the Sakhani Chandio community would stage a protest outside the Chief Minister House if the alleged false cases filed against Sardar Khan Chandio and Burhan Khan Chandio were not withdrawn.
