Islamabad police on Monday nominated two traffic police officials in a first information report (FIR) of a 20-year-old man's death. The family members of the victim were also nominated in the case.
The officials were accused of causing the death of the Christian man on Sunday after they tried to stop the bike he was riding by grabbing the handle, causing it to skid on the road. The man reportedly fell off the bike and died after hitting his head on a pavement, while the other two riders were injured. The incident took place in Blue Area in the vicinity of Kohsar police station.
Following the incident, people in the area surrounded the police officials, protesting their alleged involvement in the death and demanding their arrest. They were arrested after senior police officials arrived at the scene.
According to the FIR that was lodged 18 hours after the incident took place, the man died from a head injury from his fall. The FIR was registered under Section 320 of the Pakistan Penal Code under charges of unintentional murder.
However, residents of the 66 Quarter Christian Colony in a protest outside Kohsar police station demanded that the officers be booked under Section 302 for intentional murder.
A three-member investigation committee headed by Superintendent of Police (SP) City Ahmed Iqbal was formed to probe the incident.

why did the guy not stop. and if the cop tried to stop by trying to stop the bike rather than just shooting which is allowed if you dont stop by law.It was an accident and not fair to the police.

@Fahad You must be joking that it was an accident, any person with an inkling of common sense would not try to pull a handle of a moving bike. They should be punished so that no body tries to stop an innocent citizen like that.

@Fahad If the man fell off the bike because police held the handle of the bike, the death caused can not be d scribed accidental. Whether police are allowed to kill by shooting or not is unknown.

@Silent observer. The traffic police were doing their job
when they tried to stop the 20 year old bike rider after he refused to stop. It appears the rider was not wearing the proper head gear. The police man tried to stop him by holding the handle and did not use any deadly force. It appears the rider was traveling at a very high speed and did not want to obey the traffic police. At this time we don't know why they disobeyed the police and may be they were hiding something. I am sure the police officers will be exonerated by the investimation committee and the judge. This is very unfortunate but parents should do a better job by teaching the kids to follow the police orders and never disobey.

Very tragic. Police should not have tried to stop bike like this. Police should be trained. what if the area has the pole to stop. Riders also share blame for not stopping when asked to do so. Parents please teach your kids to respect Law enforcement personnel.

@Fahad - What nonsense you talk - If a known criminal is not stopping, the police can shoot him on the legs after due warning. Here the rider is an innocent boy and the police just pushed the handle to make him fall. This is a murder, the police should be prosecuted accordingly.

Islamabad traffic police does it job diligently and most of its staff is honest unlike other police departments. Its unfortunate a life was lost but bikers don't follow rules which is not only against the law but also endangers other people. The waving, overspeeding and reckless driving but the bikers witnessed on the roads is an evidence that most of the time traffic police has to take measures. I myself witnessed 3 boys running away at high speed without helmets and the requisite gear on their bike while a policeman followed them on his bike.

Men in uniform must be respected, their instruction and orders be obeyed by default, as long as they are operating within the law. Only then we will have order in the society. That said its sad to needlessly lose a precious life. Our sympathies are with the deceased family and prayers for the departed sole.

I have sympathy with the deceased and Policemen too. There were 3 people on the motorcycle as reported and it is a violation of traffic rules. In these good days of technology the policemen must be carrying cameras and should have taken the photo of traffic violation and sent the challan to motorcycle owner as per record instead of bringing the passengers down by holding the handle of motorcycle and killing of one person. It seem that as usual the traffic warden was trying to make few bugs as normal in this country.The solution is technology and very rare traffic police on road.
