KARACHI: The Lyceum School got off to a blazing start on the opening day of the inaugural Brig (Retd.) Rashid Ali Malik memorial inter-school (A-Levels) basketball championships at the Arambagh court on Monday with both their boys and girls teams winning their respective matches.

The Lyceum School led 22-10 at half-time before they chalked up a convincing 39-21 victory over the Habib Public School in the Group ‘B’ match.

Zaid starred for the winners with 14 and was followed by Shahpar Khan, who scored eight baskets. Though Sarfraz Abbas excelled for the Habibians with 12, he could not get enough support from other teammates.

Following the footsteps of their boys outfit, Lyceum girls sent The City School PAF Chapter packing 24-6 in the four-team Group ‘A’.

The victory came courtesy Aisha Ijlal who contributed a tall score of 20. Fariha Masood scored four points for the losers.

PAF Chapter earned consolation when they thrashed KN Academy 49-23 in the second match.

Taimur and Ahad Lodhi shone for the winners scoring 16 and 11 respectively while Sanaullah garnered 17 for the losers.

Meanwhile, Nixor College got a walkover as Bahria Model School (boys) failed to turn up for their fixture.
