MANSEHRA: The National Accountability Bureau on Tuesday received the records of the development schemes executed in the NA-21, Mansehra, constituency during the last four years.

The records were handed over by the communication and works department to a NAB team probing the Rs2 billion corruption charges against PML-N MNA retired captain Mohammad Safdar, who is also the son-in-law of deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Mr Safdar was elected MNA from the NA-21 constituency in the 2013 general elections.

The constituency consists of areas in Mansehra and Torghar districts.

A NAB source claimed that the PML-N MNA had executed Rs3 billion projects in the constituency during the last four years and allegedly embezzled Rs2 billion funds.

He said besides securing the schemes’ records, the NAB team had also visited the sites of the road, street and water and sanitation schemes executed by the PML-N MNA in the constituency.

The source said the NAB officials also quizzed contractors about various development schemes and the quality of material used by them.

FILTRATION PLANTS: The Al-Khidmat Foundation, the social work arm of the Jamaat-ii-Islami, will install water filtration plants in all 59 union councils of Mansehra district to help address shortage of drinking water.

During the groundbreaking ceremony held here for the filtration plants on Tuesday, JI district deputy chief Dr Tariq Sherazi regretted that Mansehra had been facing severe water crisis for a long time forcing the people to consume unhygienic water.

He said the Al-Khidmat Foundation’s initiative would help address the issue by supplying water to the residents of four urban union councils.

Tehsil nazim Khurram Khan Swati, who was also in attendance, said the tehsil municipal administration had planned a ‘gravity flow water supply scheme’ for Mansehra and was in contact with the Japan Agency for International Cooperation for its execution.
