QUETTA: The Balochistan Citizen Alliance (BCA) held a protest on Sunday against the killing of a mother and her young daughter, who were working as polio vaccinators during an anti-polio drive.

The protesters gathered outside the Quetta Press Club and called for the arrest of the killers.

“We condemn the brutal killing of female polio workers as killing women is against our traditions,” said Behram Lehri, a leader of BCA. He expressed concerns over poor security arrangements for health workers taking part in anti-polio drives.

The protesters lit candles to pay tribute to the victims.

The government had announced Rs1 million for the victims’ family along with two government jobs. The World Health Organisation and Emergency Operation Centre had also announced Rs1.4m for the family.
