LAHORE: The recently established Police Response Unit (PRU) allegedly stripped a citizen on the pretext of checking near Haji Camp on Saturday.

A CCTV footage aired by some news channels showed that Muzaffar, along with his son, was going pass Haji Camp when PRU personnel stopped him for checking. The police officials asked him to take off his clothes.

Anti-Riot Police and Dolphin Force SP Nadeem Khokhar told Dawn that the policemen had not asked the citizen to take off his clothes and he did it of his own volition.

Muzaffar alleged that the policemen were demanding bribe and when he could not grease their palms, they asked for his checking. He said the officials first frisked him and then abused him, “also forcing me to remove the clothes on the main road.” He requested Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take notice of the incident and provide him justice.

DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf suspended four policemen -- a sub-inspector and three constables -- from service and ordered an inquiry to find out the facts.

SP Nadeem Khokhar told Dawn that the policemen had frisked the citizen who took it as an insult and stripped himself and his “accomplice” remained busy in filming the incident. He said they were conducting an inquiry into the complaint.
